Multimode fiber offers lower bandwidth and shorter transmission distances compared to single-mode fiber.

Due to its larger core, it is more tolerant of alignment issues and easier to work with for shorter distances and lower data rates.

Multimode fiber is commonly used in shorter-distance applications such as local area networks (LANs), data centers, and short-distance communication links.

In terms of speed, both single-mode and multimode fibers can support high data rates. However, single-mode fiber typically supports higher speeds over longer distances due to its superior characteristics in terms of dispersion and attenuation.
